Name the 5 most popular rap artists?
1. 2pac R.I.P. 1971 - 1996

Born in Brooklyn, Tupac Shakur moved to Baltimore then to Marin City, California before the age of 16, where he began to sell drugs. 2pac recorded five albums between 1992 and his death in September 1996, including the first Hip-Hop double album. Eight more albums were released after his death, made up of mostly unreleased songs. The first album that was released after his death, "The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory", was made up of twelve tracks that were recorded in only seven days. 2pac is the highest selling Hip-Hop artist ever. He was shot and killed in a drive by in Las Vegas, Nevada after watching a Mike Tyson fight. Many believe it had to do with his relation to gangs and his feud with New York rapper Notorious B.I.G.

2. Jay-Z

Jay-Z, being raised in Brooklyn's Marcy Project Housing and living in a fatherless household, Shawn Carter began selling crack in his early teens. Jay-Z has released nine albums and just retired after releasing "The Black Album" this past November. Arguably, he became the King of New York after the murder of Notorious B.I.G and is said to be the greatest rapper alive by many. He, along with friends Damon Dash and Kareem "Biggs" Burke, built a dynasty with Roc-a-Fella Records and have started a clothing company, film company, and several childrens foundations for inner-city youths.

3. Eminem

Marshall Mathers isn't the first white rapper but his music is still considered very controversial not only because he's considered one of the best lyricists but also because of the homophobic, and violent things he raps of. He released three albums so far in his career. Coming from Detroit, Eminem was discovered by Dr. Dre in 1998 after being heard freestyling on a Los Angeles radio station and recorded his 1999 debut, "The Slim Shady LP". In 2002 Dr. Dre and Eminem signed 50 Cent, who went on to sell 9 million records of his debut album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'". He also starred in "8 Mile", a movie loosely based on his life.

4. Nas

Nasir Jones hails from the Queensbridge Housing Projects in Queens, New York. At the age of 20 Nas released his Hip-Hop classic debut album Illmatic and was called one of the best lyricists in the Rap game. He's released seven albums since 1994. In 2001, Jay-Z dissed Nas in a song called "Takeover" and Nas responded with the best diss in the beef with "Ether". After several more disses and the end of the beef, the streets voted Nas the winner. He's currently working on his double album said to drop this summer entitled "Street's Disciple".

5. Notorious B.I.G. R.I.P. 1973 - 1997

Christopher Wallace was raised in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. The former drug dealer would freestyle in the streets and through his friendship with DJ Mister Cee he was introduced to Sean "Puffy" Combs. His debut in 1994, "Ready to Die", was an instant classic. Tupac was going to record a song in the same building where Biggie and Puffy were also in and he was shot five times in the lobby. After, Tupac accused Biggie and Puffy of setting him up and the war had started. Tupac had dissed Notorious B.I.G. many times but he never responded. Tupac was killed in September 1996 and people immediately assumed it had to do with Biggie. Biggie was shot and murdered in a drive by shooting in Los Angeles six months later.
