Should the name of most popular sport i.e. world football now be restored as FOOTBALL and not soccer?

It is ridiculous that the most popular sport that actually uses the foot is now called soccer (abbreviated from term 'Association Football') and the name FOOTBALL was stolen by its poorer cousins which uses hands (like Rugby, American football).

Rugby, American football should invent their own name like handfooty, foothandy, handfootball, foolty or whatever. :)

Should the name of most popular sport i.e. world football now be restored as FOOTBALL and not soccer?
Football is called football all over the World. The United States call it soccer, but who cares?

LOL...Keats says "more people watch the Superbowl than the WC". In what planet do you live in? 95% of the World's 5 billion watch the WC. The Superbowl only matters to North Americans. The rest of the World doesn't care about that commercial version of Rugby.

Reply:Keep the name soccer for those american suckers!!!! The rest of the world will carry on playing football... The USA really stinks at Football anyway so who cares!!!
Reply:Hmmm you see..Football is football. That's the one with a quarterback and running backs and offensive lines. That's football. That other game they play in the world cup is called Soccer. There is a simple solution. The rest of the world should conform to the U.S. What is the big deal? More people watch the Super Bowl than the World Cup--and they all know it's called Football. Just ask John Madden. Rugby has its own name. Australian Rules Football needs a name change to Underball.

Soccer can be called Soccer, and then everybody is happy. See?
Reply:nope, soccer sucks
Reply:no.. then it gets too confusing.. i like calling soccer soccer.. and football football..

wait you guys call rugby football? what exactly is rugby anyways?
Reply:i totally agree witchu!!! how come football is called football everywhere, but some other games that use not just their feet, call that games "football" and this one "soccer"... oh, c'mon!!! it looks like "sucker" to me. make football be FOOTBALL!!!
Reply:I think so, your right, United Kingdom/Europe uses football and we should too.
Reply:Sounds reasonable.

Reply:Ok, being an American i think that we should change the name of soccer back to football......but that would cause a huge problem with our football. For one, soccer (european football) has never really been popular in the US, hence why we call our football, football. The kicker on the team has to use his foot to kick it to the other team or to make a field goal. American football is popular all around the US and that is why they will never do the name change. We make so much more money off of football than we do soccer. We do suck at soccer, but it is because we do not have development programs and different leveled leagues like most European countries do. Rugby is only called football in Austrialia and that is because it is more popular there and it is only by some people. It actually isn't true that the Super Bowl gets more people to watch than the World Cup. It gets more people on TV, but the World Cup gets more people around the world. Super Bowl mainly just gets the Americans, which can only give them a certain amount of people. The World Cup involves THE WORLD, which means more people. So that one guy who says that the Super Bowl gets more people to watch is just not thinking right. Plus have you ever seen a soccer (football) match in Europe. It is crazy and gets about three times as many people as American football does.
Reply:It's just a name! In my country we say "futbol" not "soccer" But the most important is the passion about football!
Reply:you're right. the whole world except the u.s. calls it football
Reply:It should be called football, because you use your feet to throw the ball.
