Since pop is for "popular music", I think it could fit in any country (not only in the US...).
Well, for the 10 most popular french artists, it's very "versatile": renaud, benabar, mylene farmer, johnny halliday (this one lasts), olivia ruiz (a new one), vincent delerm, rapha毛l, philippe katherine, eddy mitchell, lorie (sigh!) are selling many many singles and albums... Today... Canadian and belgian singers are well represented, too with Lara Fabian, Lynda Lemay, C茅line Dion...
But the french pop music was much easier to define between 1965 and 1990. And the songs sung then are still big hits (Dalida, Polnareff, Dutronc, France Gall, Halliday, Balavoine, Mitchell, Renaud, Fran莽oise Hardy, Dave, ...).

i might be wrong in this, but pop art was mostly a an art movement that took place in the USA, and the UK where it begun,
i don't think that that movement got to France, but i may be wrong in this
